Old mp3's

rickyv:

Pile says: Post the oldest (as in the date it was downloaded) MP3 on your computer. An easy way to do this is to sort by “Date Modified” in iTunes. Mine is: Live - I Alone

Mine is Led Zeppelin- Dyer Maker. Downloaded 11/2/97.  (update — found an older one — U2’s One, 10/8/97).

Ahhh, mine is ‘Till Tuesday’s “Voices Carry.” In all fairness, my entire iTunes library was deleted and I stole all of the ex’s music. This was first on the list because of the apostrophe. And yes, he did pay money to download this song. It is also listed as my fave song in my 2nd grade yearbook. Sweeeet.

I love this, from Ryan Adams’ tumblr:

Keep Making Art,
and when you get tired; eat,
and/ or watch movies, every kind
make tea and then Keep Making Art.
That Will Keep You From Becoming
“THEM”
- You Know-
those people
who could, but don’t
and know there is nothing left for them
them, the terrible them
that tear down the ones
WHO NEVER GAVE UP
on the dream
because you and me kid,
we were made of that stuff
and were born to dream,
even sometimes
for “them”

excerpt from “ENOUGH ROPE”
D R Adams, portion of ‘Unfinished Works”
2005-2008

Basically my life (making art, making tea, and eating). I never want to be one of “them.” Those who could, but don’t.

it’s funny b/c it’s true.

This is SO true. Literary compatibility is pretty important to me. Well, he at least needs to read…

“It is sad that people think you have to choose between being intelligent, serious and thoughtful, or you get to be shallow and frivolous and enjoy beauty and fashion…I think you should be able to make a living doing something that really appeals to you without being judged.” —

JA

In the past, I was always worried that the cool, pretty people thought I was a huge dork and that the smart, less-cool people thought I was ditzy and dumb. Now, I really love that I have such a wide-ranging personality and can be so many different things at different times. And it really doesn’t matter what anyone thinks.

Jane's Online

Tonight on WGBH’s The Complete Works of Jane Austen, they asked the experts what Jane Austen would think about online dating. One expert came to the conclusion that she would not go online to date because it’s too easy to tell lies and Austen always had to know a man’s income and family reputation. Good points. I can’t believe this conversation even took place. And I watched. But seriously, how can you not love Jane Austen?

A student at Penn State was hit by a car and this was an actual quote in the news article,

“Mattozo said the man driving the car that struck her, Penn State student Greg Marsala, was nice throughout the incident, adding that he added her as a friend on Facebook.com and sent her a message to make sure she was all right.”

There are so many things wrong with this. FYI: If you hit me with your car, I will not accept you as my Facebook friend. You are not my friend.

“When I was a girl, my life was music that was always getting louder. Everything moved me…I spent my life learning to feel less. Every day I felt less. Is that growing old? Or is it something worse? You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness.” —

Jonathan Safran Foer in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

This is one of the truest and the most amazingly sad things I’ve ever heard. It makes me feel a little less bad about feeling too much.

Responding to e-mails takes up the greater portion of my day. And it’s a never-ending job. I can’t really think of a solution, though. And I do enjoy getting e-mails (for the most part), so I will continue on my way responding, even if it takes years out of my life.
