Downhill? Uphill?
noraleah: When something gets worse, you say “it’s all downhill from there,” right? That sounds right to me, except it doesn’t make sense because going downhill is like wheee! and going uphill is like ugh. Anyone know better? This has always driven me crazy. I don’t have an answer. But yes, I’d rather go downhill than uphill because downhill is easy.
Music is worthless unless it can make a complete stranger break down and cry.
– Frou Frou, “The Dumbing Down of Love” And that doesn’t mean music has to be sad. It just has to touch people. Sometimes with its beauty, sometimes its passion, sometimes its something you can’t even explain.

The Oxford Comma →
mills: My friend “The Letter G” sent me a message the other day about the Oxford comma, also known less pretentiously as the serial comma. It happens to be a bit of punctuation I find rather indispensable, although I freely acknowledge that I transgress several other rules of grammar regularly and am no authority on the subject. Still, the serial comma, which follows the conjunction before the...
On his Twitter, @ggjeffy said not to watch this if you are stoned. ShoutFile calls it “The Strangest Internet Video Online Ever.” I say it’s super disturbing and I’m probably going to have nightmares now that I watched it. Whoever made it is probably a genius, but a genuis with some pretty big issues.
John Mayer’s review of the new Blackberry Bold: ”Hi. My name is John. I like cool stuff, early. Is that so wrong? Isn’t it funny how there are no more “geeks” in the world? Remember the distinction? Now everyone is a geek. So the word is dead. Maybe that’s where “douche” was born. The human need to separate and demean. Who knows. At any rate, It has...

Good Stress
You know when you feel SO incredibly busy and stressed out, but you still think to yourself, “I love my life!” That’s the best. That means the stresses in your life are healthy stresses. I’m constantly stressed out and worried about all the work I have to do, but I love what I do, so it makes it OK. I’d rather be like this, than be completely relaxed about something...
A couple weeks ago my sister and her fiance asked me where the nearest Blockbuster was. I laughed for a while and said I had no clue; I hadn’t rented a video from a store in a long time. Now we constantly joke about them being out of the loop and “hi, welcome to 2008.” I saw this video and immediately sent it to them. I rest my point. via Laughing Squid via Onion News Network

– Julian Barnes, in Flaubert’s Parrot (via seriouslythough) My favorite quote ever from my favorite book ever. Julian Barnes is a genius.
Girl sitting next to me at Peet’s: “I think it’s so cool that we were born in the 1990s, because it’s like, when we die we’re gonna be known for that. Like we were born in the last years. So cool.”
alohanico: I can’t really figure out why it always sounds like my upstairs neighbours are moving a filing cabinet at 7 in the morning. I mean really, how many files canone person own? Also, what’s the deal with the bouncing balls? Do you have a dog or a small child that you keep entertained by rolling a tennis ball on the floor? I’ve never heard either, which is why I’m asking. Strange, because...
I just saw someone rollerblading and it made me really want to rollerblade. But why does it seem so early 90s? Is it just not cool anymore?
